The new Galaxy M55 5G from Samsung is a good deal, like previous M series phones. It has some new features not seen before in M series phones, like a fingerprint scanner in the screen and a 50-megapixel front camera. Plus, it’s the first M series phone with fast charging up to 45W. The phone is slim and is an improvement over last year’s M54 5G. After using it for a week, I think it’s a great mid-range smartphone.
Samsung Galaxy M55 5G Review : Design
The Samsung Galaxy M55 has a slim design, only 7.8mm thick, making it easy to hold and feels good in the hand. It’s slimmer and lighter than last year’s Galaxy M54, weighing only 180g. The phone has a plastic frame and back, and unlike other mid-range Samsung phones, it doesn’t have a raised frame for the volume and power buttons.
The phone has rounded corners and slightly sloped sides, giving it a sleek look. Even though it’s not made of metal or glass, it doesn’t feel cheap. On the back, there are three separate rings for the triple camera setup, and the LED flash is placed beside them. The camera parts stick out a bit, so the phone might wobble when placed flat on its back.
On the right side, you’ll find the volume and power buttons, while the left side has a slot for the SIM card. At the top, there’s a microphone, and at the bottom, there’s a USB Type-C port, another microphone, and a loudspeaker. The Samsung Galaxy M55 looks quite similar to the Galaxy M45 from both the front and back, with the only difference being the thickness. It has a simple and minimal design that’s typical of Samsung phones.

The Galaxy M55 5G’s display provides smooth performance with its adaptive 120Hz refresh rate. It features a 6.7-inch AMOLED screen with full-HD+ resolution and a peak brightness of 1,000 nits. I found it easy to use the phone even in direct sunlight. The colors are vibrant, although there aren’t any color modes for customization. Additionally, the display offers good viewing angles.

The Galaxy M55 5G features a triple rear camera setup, with two main sensors. There’s a 50-megapixel primary sensor, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide, and a 2-megapixel macro unit. The camera app is user-friendly with various modes, including Pro mode, and a full 50-megapixel resolution option. All important modes and settings are easily accessible on the viewfinder.
During daylight, photos from the 50-megapixel main camera are detailed with accurate colors and good dynamic range, although the white balance can be inconsistent. In low light, using Night mode helps maintain detail, otherwise, the photos lack detail.
The ultra-wide camera captures decent photos in daylight but requires Night mode in low light, and there’s a noticeable color difference between the two sensors. While there’s no dedicated zoom camera, there’s a 2x digital zoom option which performs adequately in daylight but struggles at night.
The front camera delivers good selfies in daylight but requires ample lighting for low-light shots.
For videos, the main rear camera supports up to 4K 30fps with OIS support, though stabilization is mediocre. Video quality is decent in daylight but suffers from poor white balance and dynamic range. In low light, videos are noisy and lack detail.

The Galaxy M55 5G runs on One UI 6.1 based on Android 14. It has a few pre-installed apps and lock screen ads, but it’s generally clean. Samsung promises four years of OS updates and five years of security patches, which is impressive. Typically, phones in this price range only offer around two years of major OS support.
The software on the Galaxy M55 5G includes features like Always on Display, a one-handed mode, Quick Share, Live Caption, Kids Mode, Screen Recorder, Link to Windows, and Multi-window support. However, it doesn’t have Samsung DeX or any of the AI features from Samsung’s Galaxy AI suite.

The Samsung Galaxy M55 5G has a powerful processor called Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, along with a graphics processor called Adreno 644. It can have up to 12GB of RAM, which is the most ever for an M-series phone, and up to 256GB of storage. You can also add more storage with a microSD card. The phone has a USB Type-C port, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, GPS, and supports dual 5G SIM cards and Wi-Fi 6. The SIM card tray can hold two SIM cards or one SIM card and a microSD card. There’s no headphone jack.
Samsung has included a dual speaker setup in the Galaxy M55, with one speaker acting as the earpiece and the other as a dedicated loudspeaker at the bottom. While the sound can get loud, there’s not much bass. The phone has two microphones, and I found the call quality to be good.
The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC in the smartphone is excellent. I could play BGMI with HDR graphics and Ultra frame rate settings, and the touch sensitivity in the game was good too. The phone did heat up a bit during gaming, but it wasn’t too problematic.
With its 5,000mAh battery, the Galaxy M55 5G offers impressive battery life. In my test, where I played a YouTube video at 50 percent brightness with Wi-Fi on and Airplane mode enabled, I got about 11 hours and 30 minutes of screen-on time. In regular daily use, the phone easily lasted over 24 hours. Even with gaming, camera usage, YouTube/video streaming, and heavy use, I only needed to charge the phone the next morning.
However, the 45W fast charging support isn’t as impressive. Despite trying different chargers, including a 125W one, the phone consistently took about 80 to 90 minutes to fully charge from zero. It seems that the 45W fast charging only kicks in after reaching 90 percent battery.
Samsung Galaxy M55 5G Review : Performance
The Galaxy M55 performs smoothly for everyday tasks, gaming, and streaming content. Many, including myself, appreciate Samsung’s choice of including a Snapdragon chipset in the phone. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, while not the newest, is an improvement over the Exynos 1380 SoC in the Galaxy M54. While you might not notice significant differences during regular use, the Snapdragon chipset handles demanding tasks better and is more efficient.
I ran some benchmarks on the phone, and here’s what I found. On AnTuTu, the phone scored 548,995 points, which is lower than some other options like the Nothing Phone 2a, Realme 12+, and Realme 12 Pro. I did notice some lag when opening apps, in UI animations, and in the camera app when switching modes, but overall, it provided a smooth experience
Samsung Galaxy M55 5G Review : Battery
Samsung has put a 5,000mAh battery in the smartphone, which is smaller than the 6,000mAh battery in the Galaxy M54 5G. Even though it supports fast charging up to 45W, there’s no charger included in the box.

The Samsung Galaxy M55 5G starts at Rs. 26,999 and goes up to Rs. 32,999 for the top-end 12GB RAM variant. However, at this price point, there’s tough competition. The Nothing Phone 2a offers a unique design, faster performance, and a slightly better camera setup at a lower price. The Realme 12+ and Realme 12 Pro offer better designs, while the Poco X6 Pro is cheaper and offers better value for money with superior performance.
While the Galaxy M55 5G is a good mid-range smartphone with decent features like Samsung’s One UI, 4 years of Android OS updates, a decent camera setup, mid-range performance, good battery life, and a simple design, it lacks standout features. If these features align with your preferences, it’s worth considering.
