Introduction to the Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus
Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy S24 Plus, a plus-sized smartphone, alongside the Samsung Galaxy S24 and Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra at the first Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event of 2024.
The S24 Plus features a refreshed design, a nicer screen, and an impressive processor, with the same $1,000 price tag as the Plus model. The Galaxy S24 Ultra’s new $1,300 price makes the Plus phone more attractive than ever, separating it from the Ultra phones by $300.
Display :
The Galaxy S24 Plus is a smartphone with a 6.7-inch AMOLED 2X panel, a slightly larger version of its predecessor. It offers increased peak brightness from 1,750 nits to 2,600 nits, and a higher resolution from FHD+ to QHD+.
The screen’s 120Hz refresh rate can be scaled down to 1Hz for less power consumption. The device has an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, Gorilla Glass 2 protection, and a matte finish on the back glass.
Design and Build
The Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus, a successor to the previous Galaxy S23 Plus, features a flat aluminum frame with a matte finish, similar to the iPhone 15. The design is similar to the previous S23 Plus, but with slightly flatter edges and narrower bezels, following the lead of the Galaxy Z Fold 5.

The phone’s AI capabilities, known as ‘Galaxy AI’, give it an edge over comparable handsets. The S24 Plus offers Live Translate, Note Assist, Chat Assist, Tone Tweak, and Circle to Search, providing real-time two-way call translation. The chipset used will depend on the region.
Galaxy AI
Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Plus is a flagship phone that features Galaxy AI, a collection of artificial intelligence features that extend across photo editing, translation, and other phone aspects.
The main components of Galaxy AI are Edit Suggestions and Generative Edit, which allow users to add background blur, remove shadows or reflections, or remaster photos with improved colors/brightness. These edits happen locally on-device, requiring no internet connection.
Galaxy AI also focuses on translation features, offering Live Translate for phone calls and Interpreter mode for real-time translations when speaking to someone face-to-face. It is also used in Notes, Voice Recorder, and Samsung Internet apps, where AI formats and summarizes notes, transcribes recordings, and summarizes webpages.
Another AI feature, more akin to Google’s Circle to Search, allows users to tap, circle, or scribble on any part of their screen to perform a Google Search. While not always perfect, it can be surprising when it works effectively. Overall, Galaxy AI is a significant aspect of Samsung’s Galaxy S24 lineup.

Comparison with Other phones
Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Plus is a top-tier smartphone with top-tier hardware, a great screen, excellent performance, outstanding battery life, and all Galaxy AI features. The S24 Plus is my personal recommendation over the S24 Ultra, which is a fantastic smartphone with an improved camera system and S Pen.
However, the S24 Plus’s camera system is not up-to-par with other phones in this price range, and there are better choices available like the Google Pixel 8 Pro, which has worse performance and battery life.
The OnePlus 12 offers similar performance and battery life for $800, but it also has a curved screen, lower IP rating, no AI tricks, and fewer software updates.
The regular Galaxy S24 shares many of the S24 Plus’ great qualities for the same price, but you’ll need to put up with a smaller screen, lesser battery life, and slower charging. The Galaxy S24 Ultra is one of the best smartphones available in 2024, but it’s also $1,300.
