What a fantastic phone, it is the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. As usual, Samsung has crammed it with more flagship devices than you can shake a S Pen, and this year it’s also jam-packed with AI innovations. However, it’s pricey, and most of its features that I find most appealing aren’t even limited to the AI components—they’re not even exclusive to the Ultra
Design and build
At first sight, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra may appear to be identical to the Galaxy S23 Ultra, however there are several differences between the two. For example, the side rails are now constructed of titanium, resulting in a lighter and more durable design with a sumptuous appearance. Also, the S Pen stylus has been somewhat changed with a flat clicky top.
It offers a natural metal-like feel and a matte finish on the display. The company also provides items in titanium violet and titanium black.
The latest Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is the most environmentally friendly Galaxy device to date. Several internal and external components are constructed from reused plastics, glass, steel, and aluminum.
Display: A cutting-edge visual experience
The 6.8-inch screen’s ability to peak at 2,600 nits in harsh light is very noticeable when using your phone outside. When I used it in broad sunshine, I was ready to squint at the display, so it was a real delight to find that I could see the screen nearly as clearly as I did indoors. The screen is shielded by a new Gorilla Glass Armor, which claims to be far more scratch-resistant than earlier Gorilla Glass iterations. After a little more than a week of testing, it’s difficult to assess, but so far, so good.
You may also notice that the display is less curved than previously, with smaller bezels that provide more usable screen area. Performance: Seamless multitasking and powerful processing
All global versions of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra will come with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy processor. The new processor should result in enhanced ray tracing for gaming as well as more powerful and efficient performance.
Based on the test results we saw with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy chip in the Galaxy S23 Ultra, we might even see better performance than other flagship Android phones powered by the Snapdragon in this “For Galaxy” version of the chip.
Samsung has raised the RAM of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra to 12GB by default, although the base 256GB storage remains the same. If you are willing to pay extra, you can also obtain 512GB or 1TB of storage on the phone.
Camera: Capture moments like never before
The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra has a 200MP main camera, a 12MP ultrawide camera, a 10MP 3x telephoto camera, a 12MP selfie camera, and a new 50MP 5x telephoto camera. The sensors, except for the 50MP telephoto, appear to be the same as on the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Samsung claims that the new 5x lens will still provide lossless 10x zoom due to its higher resolution.
Beyond just changing one sensor, other enhancements have been made to photography. Better “Nightography” low-light photography, Super HDR compatibility for the Camera, Gallery, and Instagram apps, and several new AI features like automatic photo remastering and reflection reduction are just a few of the features Samsung is promoting.
Battery and Charging:
The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra features a 5,000 Mah battery, like previous generations of Ultra Samsung phones. We still expect that the new chip’s efficiency enhancements will allow Samsung to improve the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s already impressive battery life with this latest installment.
The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra also has 45W wired charging and 15W wireless charging, just like the Galaxy S23 Ultra. While Samsung claims a 65% charge in half an hour with a suitable charger, this is still little slower than we’d prefer.
Software and User Interface:
The Galaxy S24 series comes preloaded with Android 14, with Samsung’s One UI 6.1 layer on top of it. More importantly, however, Samsung has pledged seven years of full upgrades for the Galaxy S24 series. That’s on equal with Google for the number of years offered by a phone manufacturer, making the S24 an excellent alternative for purchasers looking to invest in the long run.
Galaxy AI features
Samsung’s Galaxy S24 series focuses on Galaxy AI and the features it powers, and the situations in which it may assist you are impressively diverse. We’ve previously discussed the photography-related elements, but there are plenty more to look at.
